The public Steam Next Fest demo runs October 19–26, 2026. Its progress carries into Early Access, scheduled for October 27, 2026. Saves from the earlier creator and press preview do not carry over, so use the public demo for the character you want to continue.
Your Opening Route Through the Prologue
Understand What Each Progression Menu Changes
Character level, equipment masteries and class level develop separately. Fighting earns character experience, while using a weapon develops its mastery and can unlock combos and passive bonuses. Armor categories also have their own progression, so check the relevant mastery when deciding what equipment to keep using.

After a level-up prompt, open the character panel with C and read the stat tooltips before distributing points. The panel explains what each stat does. Spend your available points with your current equipment and survival needs in mind.Playing this video connects to YouTube.

Activate Wanderer through the class menu with P when the class tutorial appears. Classes have their own skills and levels, and only your active class gains class experience. Focus Strike delivers a focused punch, while Swift Foot increases movement speed while active; compare their effects before choosing your next skill.Playing this video connects to YouTube.
Connect Gathering and Rescues to Your Journey

Hold E at a gathering node to collect materials and pick up its drops. Keeping the interaction held saves you from collecting each drop separately. Materials gathered around the world feed into crafting items and equipment, giving exploration a purpose beyond finding your next fight.Playing this video connects to YouTube.

Inspect the recipes available when you reach a crafting station or cooking fire. Stations have their own recipes, and crafting continues after you close the menu. Collect the finished items before leaving so the supplies you prepared can help on the next stretch.Playing this video connects to YouTube.

Follow the Bone Lady to the waypoint after freeing her. She explains how to use it and helps you leave the prison. Once you reach town, speak with her about helping its missing residents; she asks you to find a scribe and provides a map.Playing this video connects to YouTube.
These rescues connect exploration to Emberville's wider rebuilding adventure. Rescued residents contribute skills, teachings and quests, while gathering provides materials for crafting and restoration. The public Prologue ends before the full town-rebuilding loop begins, so treat reaching town as the introduction to that part of your journey.
Avoid These Early Setbacks
The opening Acolyte encounter includes a scripted death. Continue following the objectives when you return. That encounter is part of the introduction, so you do not need to restart your character because it happened.

Practice dashing away from attacks with Space and watch its cooldown. Give yourself room to move before committing to another attack. Learning that rhythm helps you approach combat with positioning and timing in mind.Playing this video connects to YouTube.
Compare equipment weight alongside protection when considering an upgrade. Heavier armor can reduce movement speed, so the strongest defensive value may come with a mobility trade-off. Also inspect useful bag and belt upgrades before recycling unwanted equipment.
Update the demo before troubleshooting menus or collecting crafted items. Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x fixes attack-rate calculation, several controller-navigation issues, accidental item use during dialogue and crafted-item collection with the action button.
Alpha Demo 0.20.17.x also fixes death XP penalty calculation and Palm Strike's guaranteed-stun bug. Avoid planning around guaranteed Palm Strike stuns. Check your current menus when assessing your character's abilities.

What Comes After the Prologue
Early Access is planned to begin with the first major biome, alongside town rebuilding, crafting and character progression. That biome's final boss is planned for an update within the first month after launch. The longer development plan expands Emberville to nine biomes.
The demo is single-player, and Early Access also launches as a single-player experience. Co-op is planned for the full release. For now, use the Prologue to learn your preferred weapons, prepare supplies and get comfortable checking each progression menu.
