How Mastery Unlocks New Attacks

Emberville weapon masteries level as you use a weapon category in combat and defeat enemies, unlocking additional moves, combos, and passive improvements. Each category has its own progress, so using swords does not also raise bows, knuckles, or magic staves.

02

How Each Weapon Mastery Develops

Your weapon choice determines which mastery you are working on. To unlock more sword moves, keep fighting with swords; to develop bow attacks, use a bow in combat. Switching categories lets you experiment, but each category still needs its own practice.

Weapon mastery also unlocks passive improvements. Sword mastery includes critical-hit and bleed effects, while knuckle mastery includes movement-speed and stun-related bonuses. Read those passive entries alongside the combos when deciding which category you want to keep developing.

Prologue Weapon Categories and Their Attacks

The Prologue introduces swords, bows, knuckles, and magic staves. Their primary and secondary actions give them different rhythms, and mastery adds further moves to each category. Use the comparison below to pick the attacks you want to learn before committing your next fights to that category.

Weapon CategoryAttacks and Mastery Unlocks
Swords: melee attacks and circular slashes.Blade Swing is the primary melee attack, and Opposing Slash is the secondary. Spinning Slash adds a circular sword attack; other mastery entries include Precision Rush and Cross Cut. Choose swords if you want to practice a melee chain that finishes with a wider swing.
Bows: ranged shots and preparation.Quick Shot fires an arrow, while Preparation uses Kymia to improve the next shot. Charged Shot adds a charged attack, and Multiple Shot fires arrows in succession in the same direction. Try bows if you prefer aiming from range and want a different rhythm from melee combos.
Knuckles: punches, kicks, and knockback.Quick Jab and Heavy Kick are the primary and secondary melee attacks. Roundhouse Kick provides a knockback attack, while Palm Strike and Comet Fist appear in the mastery progression. Choose knuckles if punches, kicks, and close-range combos suit the way you want to fight.
Magic Staves: melee strikes and ranged magic.Staff Swing supplies a melee attack, and Arcane Bolt provides a ranged attack that uses Kymia. Energized Swing is a magic-imbued strike that restores Kymia; Arcane Wave and Nova Sphere also appear in the mastery progression. Try a staff if you want to experiment with melee and ranged attacks within the same category.

Attack Timing and Palm Strike

Demo Alpha 0.20.18.x fixed attack-rate calculation issues. The same patch also fixed controller menu navigation problems. Alpha Demo 0.20.17.x fixed Palm Strike's guaranteed-stun bug, so do not rely on Palm Strike stunning every time.
